Physicians Assistant

A Physicians Assistant, also known as a P.A. or PAC, works under direct supervision of a physician.  Not to be confused with a Medical Assistant, a PA undergoes rigorous training.  While a Physicians Assistant training program is typically 2 years, most Physicians Assistants have undergone training in a 4 year undergraduate program and hold a BS or BA degree.  Therefore, a PA training program is equivalent to a Masters Degree. The job outlook for Physicians Assistants is very good. Employment opportunities are vast, and income is good.  Jobs security in this branch of the medical profession is good.  Expected income is between $60,000 and $100,000 per year.  Those holding a PAC can work in every specialty, from outpatient to Cardiothoracic surgery.  Their scope of practice in most states allows them to perform basic procedures such as laceration suturing and fracture management under that license of their supervising physician.  Physicians Assistants can expect to earn $50,000 - $100,000 per year.

Nurse Practitioner

A fast growing segment of healthcare, this midlevel certification is considered an Advanced Nursing Degree.   A masters equivalent, many Registered nurses decided to advance their clinical skill scope of practice.  Also known as NP, or ARNP, Nurse practitioners are allowed to prescribe, perform basic procedures, and diagnose.  The job market for Nurse Practitioners is excellent.  Nurse Practitioners can expect to earn from $40,000 - $80,000 per year, and the upper end of this range is expected to advance.
